Believe Me, It's Worth it | The Allure of Duluth MN
“Why would you want to live in Duluth? You have all those hills.. and I can’t even imagine how you survive the winters!”
Three words, All Wheel Drive, and here’s seven more for you, “You should come back during the summer.” I’m not going to lie to you, Duluth winters are harsh, but do you know why we choose to live where the air hurts our face? The sweet relief of summer in the Northland more than makes up for it. With North Shore destinations like Gooseberry Falls and Splitrock Lighthouse a day trip away, and the buzz downtown and in Canal Park, there is too much local adventure to ignore. Natural beauty is every which direction you explore. Chester Park, Lester Park, Brighton Beach, Park Point, Enger Tower.. the list is quite massive. And once you build up the necessary cold tolerance, the winter adventure scene adds many layers to the summer favorites. An insider secret – those adventures can be had without the waves of summer tourists 😉
In 1866, Duluth was named the “Zenith City of the Unsalted Seas,” and most locals will still agree that it is the pinnacle of Lake Superior (unless you ask a ‘Sconnie.) While the iron and shipping industries have seen their peaks and since begun fading, new types of business have kept the street lights on and the parking spaces obnoxiously full. Duluth is loaded with budding entrepreneurs with ideas ripe for the picking. This flow of new mentalities, services, and commodities builds on Duluth’s rich community and strengthens our city. This strong entrepreneurial community is what sparked the passion and idea for Building the Dream Duluth. With so many stories to tell and experiences to share, we made it our mission to make sure they were heard.
In true Minnesotan fashion, I’ll make this a long winded good bye. Until you’ve lived here, it’s easy to take this city for granted and have second thoughts; the wind and the snow and the ice, you know? But the Northland is much more than a frozen tundra. Duluth is a thriving community coexisting with its natural attractions and spoiled by its selection of craft beer. Duluth is the birthplace of Bob Dylan, Duluth Pack, and Pie à la Mode. Duluth is home.
